Metal braces are anything but subtle. "Look at me! I'm straightening my teeth," they announce every time you open your mouth. If you're looking for an orthodontic option that doesn't make your smile the unwanted center of attention, you may want to consider Invisalign. Our Sacramento, CA, dentists, Dr. Jeff DiMariano and Dr. Shaina DiMariano, discuss a few benefits of this clear brace system.
Invisalign uses plastic not metal to realign teeth
Invisalign aligner trays of made of clear plastic designed to fit your upper and lower teeth comfortably. When you visit our Sacramento office, we'll custom design a series of trays using a 3D image generated from a digital impression of your mouth, photographs and X-rays. The image can be manipulated to help us plan the course of your orthodontic treatment.
No one needs to know you're straightening your teeth
If you've ever worn a mouthguard to play sports, you know that the devices are bulky and very noticeable. Although Invisalign aligner trays are somewhat similar to mouthguards, they're designed to fit your teeth much more snugly, making them blend in with your smile, rather than call attention to it.
Your eating habits don't have to change
Metal brace wires are tough, but they will break if you eat hard foods. Because hard and sticky foods can cause big problems for metal brace wearers, they're usually prohibited. Invisalign wearers have no food restrictions. Every time you eat, you'll remove your trays and can eat anything you want.
You leave your aligner trays at home occasionally
Many people who choose Invisalign appreciate the flexibility the clear brace system offers. Each series of aligner trays is usually worn two weeks at a time for 22 hours per day. If you need to alter that schedule slightly, you can. For example, if you play a sport that requires a mouthguard, you can take your trays out while you play. The trays can also be removed when you attend a special event.
